eBay Accounting FAQs

An eBay accountantant is a specialist accountant or team of accountants that understands the accountancy needs of eBay sellers – primarily by working with them every day.

Whether you run a thriving eBay store or are starting to expand a side hustle, you’ll need an eBay accountant. Our eBay accountants can help you set up a new company, sort out your self-assessment tax liabilities, and be VAT compliant using our specialized industry knowledge.

We can help you run your eCommerce business more efficiently and identify opportunities and strategies for growth. Our experienced accountants can help you navigate managed payments, seamlessly connecting into your account so you don’t need to run endless reports on sales and fees. And because we know the tax requirements of each eBay marketplace, you can sell in multiple markets stress-free.

As ICAEW chartered eCommerce accountants, we’re well aware of the issues you face as an eBay seller. That’s why we connect you to the best accountancy software and tools to streamline business efficiency.

But what sets our accountants apart is their understanding of the eCommerce environment and the specialised advice they deliver. Because we know the challenges eBay sellers face, we can provide our clients with the confidence to sell via eBay, knowing they’re fully compliant.

We recommend our eBay seller clients use Xero and Quickbooks for a number of reasons. Both cloud-based systems are straightforward and easy to use and integrate directly with your eBay seller account. Using the best accountancy software ensures the smooth running of your day-to-day business.

We’ll set up your accountancy software to deliver real-time information so you can manage your cash flow and finances more effectively.

When you start selling on eBay, you won’t have to register for VAT, as long as your annual turnover remains below £85,000. Once you cross that threshold, you’ll need to register with HMRC and charge VAT on your eBay sales.

Recent changes to the ecommerce VAT rules have made selling through platforms like eBay a much more complex tax environment. However, we can help you navigate the new rules in a way that a traditional accountant can’t match.

To avoid any issues (such as registering for IOSS when selling into the EU) when selling internationally, we can help you register for VAT and meet your tax liabilities.

If selling into the EU via eBay, you’ll need to be compliant with the Import One Stop Shop (IOSS) scheme, which came into force in the EU on 1st July 2021. Like other eCommerce marketplaces, eBay will become responsible for collecting and remitting VAT on your behalf.

As an eBay seller, you’ll be required to use eBay’s IOSS number on all orders to ensure that customers aren’t charged with additional VAT by local Customs. Our accountants can help you get up to speed with the changes and remain tax compliant to avoid issues when selling abroad.

There is no minimum contract term required for our clients – all our contracts are on a rolling monthly basis, meaning there are no large and potentially unexpected fees usually associated with high-street accountants.

Our fixed-fee pricing structure means that what is included in each level of plan is clear and transparent and you can clearly budget for accountancy costs. We also free specialist advice with all our contracts, meaning expert advice is never more than a quick call away!

We are a team of chartered accountants specialising in ecommerce working remotely across the UK.

As specialist eCommerce accountants, we believe in providing a cost-effective and value-added service which is why we don’t waste money on expensive offices. In practice, that means we can invest in the best cutting-edge technology to support your eCommerce business.
